VIENNA, November 12. /TASS/. Russia, Japan and the UN Office on Drugs and Crime will cooperate in the fight against the Afghan drug threat, according to a trilateral declaration signed in the UN Vienna office on Monday.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Oleg Syromolotov said at the signing ceremony that trilateral cooperation opens the way for building a dog training center in Afghanistan.
"Jointly with our Japanese partners and the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, we are giving a start to a trilateral project of building a dog-training center in Afghanistan," the senior Russian diplomat said.
The scope of the drugs challenge is well known and it generates violence and crime, terrorism inside and outside Afghanistan, Syromolotov said.
"We do not intend to assume the position of an outside observer and watch indifferently how the number of victims of Afghan opiates multiplies," the Russian deputy foreign minister said, adding that it was necessary to create an alternative to these processes.
The project of the dog training center has been approved by the leaders of Russia and Japan, which testifies to its significance in ensuring stability and security in Eurasia, Syromolotov said.
