CSTO leaders to elect new secretary general on December 6 in St. Petersburg

Earlier it was announced the CSTO summit made no decision on the new head of the bloc

ASTANA, November 8. /TASS/. CSTO (the Collective Security Treaty Organization) leaders will make a decision concerning the new secretary general of the organization on December 6 in St. Petersburg, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.

"We have dedicated a significant amount of time to discuss the election of the new CSTO Secretary General. We have decided to take a final decision on December 6 in St. Petersburg. So far, Acting [Secretary General] will resume his duties until December 6," Peskov said.

The Kremlin spokesman added that on December 6, a meeting of the CSTO leaders will take place. He added that most likely, there will also be a meeting of the EAEU (the Eurasian Economic Union) and an informal CIS (the Commonwealth of Independent States) summit.

Earlier, Secretary of the Russian Security Council Nikolai Patrushev told reporters that no decision has been made on the new secretary general of the CSTO at the summit, Deputy Secretary General Valery Semerikov will serve as Acting CSTO Secretary General.

"No decision has been made, they will decide a little later. Meanwhile, Semerikov will serve as Acting [CSTO Secretary General]," Patrushev said.
