Russia supports Iraq’s anti-terrorist efforts

The statement came following a series of terror attacks in Baghdad

MOSCOW, November 6. /TASS/. Russia supports Iraq’s resolute efforts against international terrorism, the Russian foreign ministry said on Tuesday following a series of terror attacks in the Iraqi capital city.

Six people died and some 20 more were wounded in a series of explosions of improvised explosive devices in Baghdad on November 4.

"Moscow expresses solidarity with the leaders and the people of friendly Iraq in their resolute fight against extremists. We support the anti-terrorist efforts of the Iraqi authorities and offer them practical support," the ministry said.

It called for consolidation of the international community against transnational terrorist groups.

"We strongly condemn another blood-shedding terror attack which graphically demonstrates the barbarian nature of violent radicals with their pseudo-religious slogans," the ministry stressed. "Once again we say that such actions are geared to instigate interreligious hatred in Iraq, to frustrate efforts towards formation of institutes of power in that country following the May 12 parliamentary elections."

The ministry offered condolences to the families of those killed in the terror attacks and wished the soonest recovery to those wounded.
