Turkish president comments on US’ sanctions against Iran

ANKARA, November 6. /TASS/. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called the US’ anti-Iran sanctions wrong on Tuesday.

"We will not obey such sanctions. I don’t consider the decision to introduce sanctions to be right. This move is aimed at violating the global balance," the NTV channel quoted him as saying.

Erdogan noted again that sanctions "contradict the norms of international law." According to the president, Ankara does not wish "to live in an imperialistic world." To date, the Turkish leader stated, his country purchases 10 bln cubic meters of gas per year from Iran.

On May 8, US President Donald Trump declared Washington’s withdrawal from the JCPOA and promised not just to return the former sanctions but introduce new ones as well, and the US Department of State reported in this regard Washington’s decision to diminish Iran’s revenues from oil exports. The first part of the US sanctions was relaunched in August - these restrictive measures covered Iran’s car building industry and the trading of gold and other metals. The other sanctions, including against the Iranian oil industry, came into effect on November 5.
