Russia, Syria to cooperate in formation of Syrian Constitutional Committee

An agreement on a constitutional committee in Syria was reached at the Syrian National Dialogue Congress in Russia’s Black Sea resort city of Sochi on January 30-31

MOSCOW, November 4. /TASS/. /TASS/. Syrian President Bashar Assad on Sunday received visiting Russian president’s envoy for Syria Alexander Lavrentyev to discuss issues of the formation of Syria’s Constitutiional Committee, SANA news agency reported.

According to SANA, the sides agreed to continue cooperation to remove all possible obstacles on the path of establishing this committee.

An agreement on a constitutional committee in Syria was reached at the Syrian National Dialogue Congress in Russia’s Black Sea resort city of Sochi on January 30-31. The committee will be tasked to elaborate recommendations on amendments to the Syrian constitution.

According to SANA, Lavrentyev informed the Syrian leader about the results of the October 27 four-lateral summit of the Russian, Turkish, German and French leaders in Istanbul and about the efforts taken by Russian jointly with other regional and international sides "to reach progress in political settlement and ending the war."

Assad highly estimated Russia’s efforts aiming to neutralize interference of external forces into Syrian affairs.
