Unidentified persons try to hack e-mail of LPR's election commission

The decision to hold elections in the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics (DPR and LPR) was made after the death of DPR leader Alexander Zakharchenko in a terrorist attack

LUGANSK, October 31./TASS/. Unidentified persons have attempted to hack the e-mail of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of the self-proclaimed Lugansk People's Republic (LPR).

"Unidentified persons have made repeated attempts to hack the e-mail of the Central Election Commission of the Lugansk People's Republic," LuganskInformCenter quoted CEC as saying. "We could only speculate on who might want to do this. However, it is worth noting that attempts to hack the e-mail were made after the session of the UN Security Council, where the Ukrainian side tried to prove the illegitimacy of elections in LPR and DPR [self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic]," the commission added.

All attempts to hack the system were unsuccessful, CEC noted. "Work on organizing and holinding elections of the head and deputies of the People's Council of the Lugansk People's Republic is proceeding in accordance with the schedule," CEC stressed.

CEC Chairwoman Elena Kravchenko said that such attempts to disrupt CEC's work and prevent local elections represent "an obvious infringment on the electoral rights of Donbass residents."

At the UN Security Council session on October 30 devoted to upcoming elections in LPR and DPR, representatives of Western countries refused to allow CEC Chairwoman Elena Kravchenko to report on the situation. Acting LPR head Leonid Pasechnik said that it is absurd to discuss Donbass elections in the absence of LPR and DPR representatives. Acting LPR foreign minister Vladislav Deynego said that this goes against international law.

The decision to hold elections in the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics (DPR and LPR) was made after the death of DPR leader Alexander Zakharchenko in a terrorist attack. Moscow said holding local elections in Donbass is a necessary measure in the current conditions. Russia's envoy to the Contact Group on Ukraine Boris Gryzlov said that the Package of measures signed in Minsk regulates only municipal elections in Donbass. Since electing leaders and parliaments of DPR and LPR are not classified as municipal, it does not contradict the Minsk process, he added.
