THE UNITED NATIONS, October 29. /TASS/. Russia does not have any objections against the candidacy of Norwegian diplomat Geir Pedersen for the position of the UN Special Envoy on Syria, Russian Permanent Representative at the UN Vasily Nebenzya told reporters on Monday.

"No objections," he said in response to a relevant question, noting that the main important thing is that the Syrian government has no objections.

On October 17, UN Special Envoy on Syria Staffan de Mistura announced his resignation from the post at the end of November. He held this position for over four years. On October 23, Al Watan daily reported, citing Arab diplomatic sources, that de Mistura may be succeeded by Norway's Ambassador to China Geir Pederson.
