In past 25 years, Russian emergencies ministry helped 140 states, hit by various disasters

Russia is an active UN partner on issues of emergency response

MOSCOW, August 19. /TASS/. In the past 25 years, the Russian emergencies ministry has rendered assistance to 140 countries hit by various types of disasters, the ministry said on the occasion of the World Humanitarian Day, celebrated on August 19.

"Russia is one of the global leaders in providing humanitarian assistance and non-repayable aid in various parts of the globe. The geography of Russian humanitarian assistance spans to about 140 countries, hit by natural disasters and armed conflict," an embassy spokesperson said.

Russia is an active UN partner on issues of emergency response.

"Since 1993, more than 450 emergency relief operations have been carried out, 284 of them were the delivery of humanitarian cargo to more than 70 countries worldwide, including zones of armed conflict," the source said.

Besides, Russian rescuers took part in disaster relief, rescue operations, mine clearing efforts, extinguished wildfires and evacuated Russian citizens from zones of armed conflicts.

Since 2014, the Russian emergencies ministry has been providing assistance to southeastern Ukraine, sending humanitarian convoys to the conflict-hit eastern Ukrainian region of Donbass. In total, 78 truck convoys have so far been sent to deliver food, medicines and daily necessities to the region’s civilian population.
