Militants destroyed two-thirds of homes in Aleppo Governorate, says governor

The governor said that energy facilities are being rebuilt as a priority

ALEPPO /Syria/, August 16. /TASS/. Two-thirds of the dwelling houses in the Aleppo Governorate and 90% of industrial facilities were destroyed by terrorist groups, said Governor of Aleppo Hassan Diab on Thursday.

"Aleppo is the second largest governorate in Syria and the largest industrial, cultural and educational center of Syria. The war left horrible traces in the city and governorate. The militants destroyed two-thirds of the dwelling houses and 90% of the industrial facilities," the governor said.

After the liberation of the city a year and a half ago the authorities embarked on the restoration of the Aleppo industrial infrastructure.

The governor said that energy facilities are being rebuilt as a priority. "Four hundred transformer substations and the water supply system of the city of Aleppo were restored," Diab said.

The work is underway to restore medical facilities and emergency rooms, and tens of kilometers of roads were repaired.

"The historic city center, the residential quarters and educational facilities are being reconstructed. The restoration of socially significant facilities and dwellings became a necessary condition for the refugees’ return. Education and science are a special area in the administration’s work," the Aleppo governor stressed.
