DARAA GOVERNORATE /Syria/, August 14. /TASS/. The Nasib checkpoint at the Syrian-Jordanian border is capable of handling up to 4,000 refugees a day, chief of the Nasib office of the Russian Center for Reception, Allocation and Accommodation of Refugees in Syria, Mikhail Kilasyev, said on Tuesday.

"In a span of 24 hours, the checkpoint is capable of handling up to 4,000 people and 50 cars. Today, no one used it to cross the border, but the lists [of returning refugee] are being drafted. We are expecting people to come," he said, adding that about 50 Syrian families are to use this checkpoint to return to Syria from Jordan later in the day.

"The checkpoint is ready to receive refugees, to provide them with meals, drinking water, living necessities and medical assistance," Kilasyev noted.

Governor of the Daraa governorate, Mohammad Khaled al-Hanous, has pledged that the local authorities are ready to ensure normal living conditions for returning refugees. "We are ready to allocate transport vehicles to take people to their homes, to issue them documents and provide medical assistance. Those whose homes have not yet been restored can find shelter in temporary accommodations that have room for up to 10,000 people," he said.

The Center for Reception, Allocation and Accommodation of Refugees was set up by the Russian defense ministry in coordination with the Syrian authorities as part of international efforts to assist Syrian refugees in returning to their places of residence. It is tasked to monitor the return of internally displaced persons and Syrian refugees from foreign countries to their places of residence, as well as arrange humanitarian aid deliveries and assist the Syrian authorities in resuming healthcare and social services.
