Russian journalist Dzhemal killed in Central African Republic, says radio station chief

Editor-in-Chief of Ekho Moskvy (Echo of Moscow) radio station Venediktov confirmed he knew about Dzhemal’s plans to visit Africa

MOSCOW, July 31. /TASS/. Russian journalist Orkhan Dzhemal has been killed in the Central African Republic (CAR), Editor-in-Chief of Ekho Moskvy (Echo of Moscow) radio station Alexei Venediktov told TASS on Tuesday.

Dzhemal stayed in the Central African Republic together with cameraman Kirill Radchenko and producer Alexander Rastorguyev, he said.

"Orkhan Dzhemal has been killed in the CAR," Venediktov told TASS.

"His relatives told me about that," he added.

Venediktov said he knew about Dzhemal’s plans to visit Africa: "We knew that he was going to visit the CAR and he had been engaged in filming documentaries lately and he was planning to shoot a film there but we did not know about the timeframe. He was part of a small group," Venediktov said.
