Damascus demands US and its allies leave Syria’s territory

According to Syria's UN envoy, their stay on the country's territory is illegitimate

SOCHI, July 31. /TASS/. Syria’s government demands the United States and its allied immediately withdraw their troops from the Syrian territory, Syria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Bashar al-Jaafari said on Tuesday.

"Al-Tanf is a triangle at the border with Iraq and Jordan where US troops are currently staying illegally," said al-Jaafari, who led the Syrian government delegation to the international meeting on Syria in Russia’s Sochi. "So, as the Syrian government, we demand the United States and all its allies immediately leave the entire Syrian territory as their stay on our territory is illegitimate and is done without our invitation."

The tenth international meeting on Syria in the Astana format is being held in Russia’s Black Sea resort city of Sochi on Tuesday. The sides will continue bilateral and multilateral consultations, hold a plenary session and will adopt a final statement.
