Over 40 explosive objects destroyed during demining works in Syria’s Homs

Syria’s supreme national committee for refugee affairs is also taking measures to ensure social support to the refugees

MOSCOW, July 23. /TASS/. More than 40 explosive objects were found and destroyed during demining works in the cities of al-Rastan, al-Gasbiyah, and Kfar Lakh in the Syrian Homs governorate, senior duty officer of the inter-ministerial coordinating headquarters Igor Sergeyev said on Monday.

"Syrian field engineering troops continues demining works in al-Rastan, al-Gasbiyah, and Kfar Lakh. More than 2.2 hectares of land, 15 buildings and 1.7 kilometers of motorways were cleared of mines. As many as 44 explosive objects, including 12 improvised explosive devices, were found and destroyed," he said at a meeting of the inter-ministerial coordinating headquarters of the Russian defense and foreign ministries for the return of refugees to Syria.

According to Sergeyev, Syria’s ministry of municipal administration and ecology jointly with other government agencies continue efforts to revive the country’s economy. Syria’s supreme national committee for refugee affairs is taking measures to ensure social support to the refugees. Police are preparing vehicles to transport the refugees.

"Officers of the Russian Centre for the Reception, Allocation and Accommodation of Refugees in Syria are schedule to hold a working meeting with the Homs governorate administration later in the day to address problems related to the return of refugees and create necessary conditions to count and accommodate them," he added.

The Center for Reception, Allocation and Accommodation of Refugees was set up by the Russian defense ministry in coordination with the Syrian authorities as part of international efforts to assist Syrian refugees in returning to their places of residence. It is tasked to monitor the return of internally displaced persons and Syrian refugees from foreign countries to their places of residence, as well as arrange humanitarian aid deliveries and assist the Syrian authorities in resuming healthcare and social services.
