Syria, South Ossetia sign agreement establishing diplomatic relations - SANA

According to the agency, other agreements aimed at boosting bilateral ties will be signed during Medoyev’s visit to Syria

TASS, July 22. The foreign ministers of Syria and South Ossetia - Walid Muallem and Dmitry Medoyev - have signed an agreement establishing diplomatic relations in Damascus on Sunday, the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported.

According to SANA, other agreements aimed at boosting bilateral ties will be signed during Medoyev’s visit to Syria.

Muallem at talks with Medoyev spoke about the recent successes achieved by the Syrian government forces and their allies in the fight against terrorists.

On behalf of South Ossetia, Medoyev expressed support for the Syrian and a wish that peace and stability would return to Syria soon.

One of the goals of Medoyev’s visit to Damascus is making preparations for an official visit of South Ossetian President Anatoly Bibilov, which is expected to take place in the near future.

On May 29, the Syrian Foreign Ministry announced that an agreement had been reached on recognizing South Ossetia and Abkhazia.
