DONETSK, July 22. /TASS/. The Kiev authorities have formed a special sniper unit consisting of Ukrainian military servicemen and members of the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU), Spokesman for the Operational Command of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) Daniil Bezsonov said on Sunday.

"Commander of Ukraine's Joint Forces Operation Sergei Nayev has initiated efforts to step up sniper attacks along the line of contact," the Donetsk News Agency quoted him as saying. "In accordance with a secret order, a joint sniper unit consisting of about 30 members was formed in July. The group includes officers from SBU’s Special Operations Center, as well as snipers from the Third Separate Special Operations Regiment and the 17th Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces," Bezsonov added.

The DPR Operational Command spokesman also said that the new unit, deployed to the town of Kramatorsk, reported directly to the deputy commander of the Joint Forces Operation. According to Bezsonov, funds have been allocated to purchase US-made Remington and Barrett sniper rifles, navigation tablets and other equipment for the unit’s members.
