Granma: nearly all passengers who died in air crash near Havana were Cubans

There were 105 people on board, most of the passengers were Cubans, except for five foreign nationals and crew

HAVANA, May 19. /TASS/. Nearly all passengers of the plane that crashed near Havana on Friday were Cuban citizens, the daily Granma said.

There were 105 people on board. Most of the passengers were Cubans, except for five foreign nationals and crew.

There were no Russians on board. The five crew members were Mexicans.

A Boeing-737 which Cubana de Aviacion leased from Mexico’s Global Air crashed on Friday after takeoff from Havana’s international Jose Marti airport. It was on the way for Holguin.

The plane crashed a minute after takeoff on farmland between the airport and Santiago de las Vegas, 20 kilometers south of Havana. According to early reports more than 100 people died. After the crash four people were taken to hospital. One of them died a short while later.
