Russia's FSB catches internationally wanted terrorist

The detainee was recruited by the Islamic State terrorist group

ST. PETERSBURG, May 17. /TASS/. Border control officers from the Russian Security Service (the FSB) for St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region have detained a Central Asian national, recruited by the Islamic State terrorist group (outlawed in Russia) and wanted internationally, the FSB's press service reported on Thursday.

"We have detained a resident from one of the Central Asian countries in the Vyborgsky District, Leningrad Region. The detainee was placed on an international wanted list for terrorism and extremism," the FSB border control stated.

"We have established that several relatives of the detainee are currently in the Syrian Arab Republic, participating in armed conflicts in illegal armed groups," the press service added.

The FSB border control also reported that the detainee was recruited by IS (terror group, outlawed in Russia). As of now, he has been transferred for further proceedings to the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs’ department for St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region, the FSB border control press service concluded.
