Special services thwart Victory Day terror plot aimed at Immortal Regiment in Moscow

Several groups that had plotted explosions during the Immortal Regiment procession were detained

ROME, May 11. /TASS/. Russian special services on the eve of Victory Day detained a group of terrorists who had plotted terrorist attacks at the Immortal Regiment procession in Moscow, Deputy Foreign Minister Oleg Syromolotov told TASS in an exclusive interview on Friday.

"Several groups that had plotted explosions during the Immortal Regiment procession in Moscow were detained. They had prepared weapons in advance," he said. "The groups were on the way from Siberia, from Novy Urengoi. Seventeen searches were carried out there and 20 suspects detained."

"On April 21-24 we eliminated 26 terrorists," he added.

Syromolotov recalled that in 2017 Russian special services had probed into the activities of a group in St. Petersburg that had planned a terrorist attack before the Immortal Regiment procession.

"When we took a look at the finances, we realized that the money was coming from Turkey. Then we tracked down a standby group in Siberia," he said.
