Government forces take Syria’s Eastern Qalamun under control

This territory used to be controlled by nine Islamist groups, including Jaysh al-Islam

JAYRUD /Syria/, April 26. /TASS/. The Syrian government forces have gained control of Syria’s Eastern Qalamun, including the cities of Dumeir, Jayrud and Ar Ruhaybah, TASS reports from the site.

This territory used to be controlled by nine Islamist groups, including Jaysh al-Islam. On Wednesday, April 25, the Syrian government army and the Russian military police entered the enclave’s territory.

"The Russian military police and the Syrian police will be jointly patrolling the cities of Eastern Qalamun to provide security for the local residents, as well as to provide security in schools, hospitals and government agencies," said Andrei Adamis, member of the Reconciliation Center for the Opposing Sides.

About 5,500 militants and members of their families were evacuated from Eastern Qalamun.
