YEREVAN, April 19. /TASS/. Armenian police have hauled off 106 protesters in downtown Yerevan, Police Spokesman Ashot Agaronyan told TASS.
"As of 13:30 local time (09:30 GMT), 106 people have been taken to police stations. If they are not released in three hours, it means they are suspected of committing offences," he said.
Mass protests against former President Serzh Sargsyan’s appointment as Prime Minister started in capital Yerevan and other Armenian cities on Monday. Police hauled off dozens of protesters, most of whom were later released. On Tuesday, Armenia’s parliament elected Sargsyan as prime minister.
MP Nikol Pashinyan, the leader of the Civil Contract opposition party, declared "a velvet revolution" on Tuesday, calling on his supporters to hold peaceful actions of civil disobedience.
