White House: Washington to decide on new sanctions against Russia in near future

WASHINGTON, April 16. /TASS/. The US authorities are considering additional sanctions on Russia and the relevant decision will be taken soon, according to the White House’s statement TASS received on Monday.

"We are considering additional sanctions on Russia and a decision will be made in the near future," White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said as quoted by the statement.

Earlier, US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley told CBS that further sanctions against the Russian government "will be coming down" because of Russia’s supporting Syria. According to her Steven Mnuchin, US Secretary of the Treasury was to announced them already on Monday.

Last time, Washington announced imposing sanctions against Russia on April 6.

The new sanctions concerned 17 Russian officials, businessmen, 12 private and 2 state companies. According to the US Treasury, the assets of all 24 Russian citizens and 14 companies, if there are any under US jurisdiction, will be frozen.

The list of sanctioned businessmen includes Oleg Diripaska, as well as Gazprom CEO Alexey Miller, VTB CEO Andrey Kostin, owner of Renova Viktor Vekselberg, President of Surgutneftegaz Vladimir Bogdanov, Member of Sibur Board of Directors Kirill Shamalov, businessmen Igor Rotenberg and Suleiman Kerimov.
