Sochi mayor says no need to promote alpine skiing

The Sochi administration expects full hotel occupancy at the Krasnaya Polyana ski resort in the upcoming ski season

SOCHI, November 24. /TASS/. The Sochi administration expects full hotel occupancy at the Krasnaya Polyana ski resort in the upcoming ski season, so there is no need to promote the resort during the off-season, Sochi mayor Anatoly Pakhomov said at the International Forum for Tourism SIFT 2016.

“We can boost advertising but at the moment there is no need for that, moreover, we are a bit concerned. The ski resort has been fully booked for the holiday season so if we woo more tourists they will have to wait in line to get to the ski resort. The Sochi administration pays much attention to developing quality tourism products and effectively cooperating with tour operators. For the past three years, we have been encouraging tourists to visit but now our main goal is to increase the quality of our services,” the mayor said.

According to Pakhomov, the advertising campaign has been based on the tour operators’ recommendations in the past two years. “The tour operators’ activities have led us to believe that the 2017 season will be successful. We hope it will be no worse than the current season, if not better,” Anatoly Pakhomov noted.

More than 5,500,000 tourists have already visited Sochi in 2016. A total of 6,500,000 tourists are projected to visit by the end of the year and no less than 400,000 tourists are expected to visit Krasnaya Polyana.
