15 bln rubles to be invested in Sheregesh tourist cluster in Kuzbass

During the past two mountain ski seasons, over 1,000,000 tourists visited the resort

KEMEROVO, November 22. /TASS/. A total of 15 bln rubles (roughly $230 mln) are planned to be invested in the Sheregesh tourist cluster in the Kemerovo region in 2017-2020, around 10.5 bln being private investment, a source in the tourism department of the regional agency for youth policy and sports told TASS.

According to the Federal Agency for Tourism (Rostourism), the main goal is to level out the tourist inflow as at present most tourists visit the resort in winter while in summer the hotel occupancy does not exceed 30-40%.

The Sheregesh resort is located in the southern part of the Kemerovo region. During the past two mountain ski seasons, over 1,000,000 tourists visited the resort. The complex comprises 61 hotels, 21 ski trails, 18 chairlifts, 62 restaurants and cafes as well as three entertainment centers, an indoor skating rink and a tennis court. 

“This program will allow to tackle the hotel room shortage issue and what is most important, it will give additional impetus to the tourism industry development in four Kuzbass municipalities,” the federal agency

According to the Federal target program on domestic and inbound tourism development, 54 tourist and recreation clusters are under construction in 41 Russian regions. The program has been effective since 2011, eleven clusters in ten regions have been already put into operation.
