Yeti residence opened in southwestern Siberian ski resort to mark Snowman Day

The Kemerovo region celebrated Snowman Day which is dedicated to marking the official opening of the mountain ski season at the Sheregesh tourist complex

KEMEROVO, November 18. /TASS/. On November 18, the Kemerovo region celebrated Snowman Day which is dedicated to marking the official opening of the mountain ski season at the Sheregesh tourist complex, a source in the tourism Department of the Regional Agency for Youth Policy and Sports told TASS.

“This year a Yeti Residence has been inaugurated on the Snowman Day celebrated in the region starting from 2010. We thought that the Yeti should have his own residence just like Ded Moroz, or Father Frost, does,” the source said. A large two-level cave houses the residence, with rock drawings, or petroglyphs, decorating the walls. A shaman welcomes guests and describes the legends of the Mountain Shoria region to visitors.

Kids are sure to get excited when they meet the Abominable Snowman himself. His private room is located on the second level of the cave. Next summer a theme park is planned to be set up near the cave.

The Abominable Snowman, or Yeti, is a specific symbol of Mountain Shoria. Locals claim to have seen numerous signs of the snowman’s activities in the Azasskaya cave which led many scientists and reporters to explore the cavern.

During the 2015-2016 mountain ski season, over one million people visited the Sheregesh tourist complex, located in the south of the Kemerovo region. There are 59 hotels, 18 chairlifts, 19 ski trails, 62 restaurants and cafes in the complex.
