Daily Mirror misleads with wrong pictures for article on football 'Ultras' in Russia

The tabloid uses the photos from Maslenitsa, or Pancake Week, festivities in Moscow Izmailovsky Market, where traditional fistfights were held

MOSCOW, March 21. /TASS/. British tabloid the Daily Mirror has published an article about Russian fans threatening English football supporters prior to the 2018 FIFA World Cup with images from Maslenitsa, or Pancake Week, festivities in Moscow.
The article titled “Russia's Ultra yobs infiltrated amid warnings England fans could be killed at World Cup” uses the photos from Maslenitsa festivities in Moscow Izmailovsky Market, where on February 25, 2017, traditional fistfights were held.

The article is based on the comments of Uralmash Steel Monsters fans gang member Alexey Mavryn and a leader of Zenit St. Petersburg’s Landscrona fans association, whose name remains anonymous.
The article cites their claims with threats against English fans who will come to the 2018 World Cup.

Earlier, the BBC had shown a film about Russian football fans who are allegedly ready to take revenge on English fans during the World Cup in 2018 after the clashes in Marseilles in June 2016 at the European Championship. The 2018 World Cup matches are scheduled to be held from June 14 to July 15 at 12 stadiums in 11 Russian cities: Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Saransk, Kaliningrad, Volgograd, Yekaterinburg, Samara, Sochi and Rostov-on-Don.
