Platini officially quits post of UEFA chief

Michel Platini will be succeeded by either UEFA vice president Michael van Praag or Slovenian football federation head Aleksander Ceferin

ATHENS, September 14. /TASS/. Michel Platini on Wednesday announced he is officially resigning from the post of the President of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA).

"I have a clear conscience, I am certain not to have made any mistake and will continue the legal battle," Platini said in his farewell speech at the UEFA extraordinary congress.

Platini, who is considered to be one of the greatest players of all time, had been at the helm of UEFA since 2007 until he was suspended earlier this year.

Platini, who is serving a four-year ban over a disloyal payment, will be succeeded by either UEFA vice president Michael van Praag or Slovenian football federation head Aleksander Ceferin.
