World Cup 2018 organizers study Brazil’s Cuiaba experience

Under the observer program, about 100 Russian specialists will visit two cities hosting the FIFA World Cup 2014 to prepare for organizing the event in Russia in 2018

CUIABA, June 17. /ITAR-TASS/. Representatives of the Organizing Committee (OC) for FIFA World Cup 2018 in Russia, Russian regional authorities and members of the government of the Brazilian city of Cuiaba met on Monday within the observer program of the International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA), the OC told ITAR-TASS. Russia will play with South Korea in this Brazilian city on Tuesday.

Director General of FIFA World Cup 2018 OC Alexei Sorokin, Russian Ambassador in Brazil Sergei Akopov, deputy governors and sport ministers of regions involved in preparation to the FIFA World Cup 2018 represented the Russian delegation. The Cuiaba minister of sport and youth policy and members of the local organizing committee dwelt on how the city had been preparing for the competition, which requirements FIFA set for it and how security issues and other issues were addressed.

“The experience of this city, both positive and negative, is particularly interesting to Russians due to its remote location and a quite small population of 600,000 people,” the Russian ambassador told ITAR-TASS.

Under the observer program, about 100 Russian specialists will visit two cities hosting the FIFA World Cup 2014. Representatives of quite small Russian cities of Saransk and Rostov-on-Don came to Cuiaba, officials from Russian megapolises of Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan and Yekaterinburg went to Rio De Janeiro.
