MOSCOW, February 8. /TASS/. Russian football club Spartak Moscow’s former head coach Domenico Tedesco has been appointed to the post of the Belgian national team’s coach, the Royal Belgian Football Association (RBFA) announced in a statement on Wednesday.

"The Royal Belgian Football Association (RBFA) is proud to announce that Domenico Tedesco has been appointed as the new national team coach," the statement reads. "Italian Domenico Tedesco will succeed Roberto Martinez as national coach of the Belgian Red Devils. He will sign a contract with the RBFA until after the 2024 European Championship."

"Tedesco is 37 and was previously coach at Schalke 04, Spartak Moscow and RB Leipzig. He is known as a modern coach with top-level international experience, who likes to play an offensive style of football with plenty of forward pressure," according to the statement.

The RBFA quoted Tedesco as saying: "For me it is a great honor to be the new head coach of Belgium. I'm really looking forward to the task and I'm extremely motivated. I had a very good feeling right from the first conversation."

Belgium’s football authorities parted ways with previous Head Coach Roberto Martinez after the national squad of the so-called ‘Red Devils’ failed to clear the group stage at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Tedesco served as the head coach for Spartak Moscow FC between 2019-2021 and led the club to 2nd place in the 2020/2021 season of the Russian Premier League’s (RPL). However, he announced his decision in December 2020 to leave the Russian club before the end of the 2020/2021 national football season.

In September 2019, Tedesco was named the best coach of the Russian Premier League (RPL). The German-Italian football manager was unanimously selected by RPL representatives, sports experts from Russia’s Match-TV television channel and national football fans.
