MOSCOW, December 19. /TASS/. The Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) has sent to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) a preliminary list of national athletes intending to participate in the 2018 Winter Olympics, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Mutko told TASS on Tuesday.
"A work group has been set up and it is managed by ROC Vice President Stanislav Pozdnyakov," Mutko said in an interview with TASS. "The preliminary list of athletes has been sent to the IOC, while the details of athletes’ admission are still being clarified."
"We must not forget that each sports competition sets its own criteria for the admission, for instance some put forward required standards, while some consider rating standings," he added.
The Executive Board of the IOC announced its decision on December 5 to suspend the Russian national team from taking part in the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in South Korea’s PyeongChang over multiple doping abuse allegations.
The IOC, however, stated that doping-free athletes from Russia could go to the 2018 Olympic Games under the classification of neutral athletes, or the OAR status, which stands for ‘Olympic Athlete from Russia.’
The upcoming Olympics, which are 23rd Winter Games, will take place in South Korea’s PyeongChang on February 9-25, 2018.
