MOSCOW, December 16. /TASS/. Russia beat Canada 2-0 in the final round-robin match at the Channel One Cup in Moscow on Saturday.

Nikita Nesterov and Sergei Plotnikov scored for Russia in the third period.

The win over Canada has been first for Russia’s ice hockey squad trained by head coach Oleg Znarok. Russian ice hockey players had lost to Canada in their four previous matches at the World Cups of 2015 and 2016 and in the semi-final at the 2017 World Cup.

Russia tops the standings with six points following two games. Canada earned three points in three matches to become third in the standings.

The Channel One Cup ends on December 17. On Sunday Russia will face Finland.
