MOSCOW, December 9. /TASS/. Russian athletes’ uniform will feature national details at the 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea’s PyeongChang where they will compete under the neutral flag, the head of Russia’s Olympic Committee, Alexander Zhukov said on Russian television Rossiya’24 on Saturday.
"The issue [of Olympic kits] will be discussed with IOC special commission. However, they will be made in Russia," Zhukov said. "I think the outfits will feature national details."
An IOC commission, led by Samuel Schmid, established that Russia allegedly employed a system of manipulations with doping samples collected from national athletes.
Based on the commission’s findings, the IOC announced its decision on Tuesday night to suspend the Russian national team from taking part in the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in South Korea’s PyeongChang over multiple doping abuse allegations.
The IOC, however, stated that doping-free athletes from Russia could go to the 2018 Olympic Games under the classification of neutral athletes, or OAR status, which stands for ‘Olympic Athlete from Russia.’
Later, reports came that the IOC contacted Nike with a request to design neutral outfits for Russia. In the meantime, Moscow-based sportswear brand ZA Sport, the official designer of outfits for Russia team at the coming Olympic Games, said that the issue would be considered after December 12 when a final decision on Russia’s participation in the 2018 Olympics was expected.
The upcoming Olympics, which are 23rd Winter Games, will take place in South Korea’s PyeongChang on February 9-25, 2018.
