NIZHNY NOVGOROD, December 6. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday he felt disturbed by the situation around Russian Olympic athletes after a decision of the International Olympic Committee to ban Team Russia from the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

"I also feel concerned for the guys, many of whom I know personally and consider them to be my friends," Putin said. "Each of them has to make a decision of some kind now."

"Unlike other athletes, Russian athletes will undergo triple checks," he recalled. "What does it mean in practical terms and how will this be organized?"

"Something we don’t know is how this will be organized," Putin said,

He added that one more aspect Moscow did not understand quite clearly was the way team competitions would be organized. "And what insignia will they will have? It’s an important issue," Putin said.

"Last but not least, the athletes should make decisions for themselves now - each of them, both at the level of teams and individually, who will take part and how," he said.
