MOSCOW, December 6. /TASS/. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has made an "informed decision" by barring Russia’s national team from competing in the 2018 Olympic Games, WADA President Craig Reedie said on Tuesday.
"WADA believes that the IOC has taken an informed decision to sanction Russia for its involvement in institutionalized manipulation of the doping control process before, during and after the 2014 Sochi Olympic Games," the WADA press service quoted Reedie as saying.
"The Agency also welcomes the decision to establish a panel that will determine criteria for the inclusion of Russian athletes under a neutral flag. It must be proven that these athletes have not been implicated in the institutionalized scheme and have been tested as overseen by the panel. We are eager to collaborate with other stakeholders in this regard," he added.
The IOC announced on Tuesday its decision to suspend membership of the Russian Olympic Committee, effectively banning the Russian national team from taking part in the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in South Korea’s PyeongChang. Doping-free athletes from Russia were permitted to compete in the status of neutral athletes.
The 2018 Winter Olympic Games in South Korea’s PyeongChang will take place on February 5-21, 2018.
