MINSK, December 2. /TASS/. South Korea has become vocal in its concern about prospects for the unsuccessful 2018 Winter Olympic Games in PyeongChang due to provocations against Russian athletes, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in a televised interview with the Belarussian channel STV.
"It is a fact that Seoul is truly concerned about a prospect of unsuccessful Olympics," Lavrov said. "They speak openly about this in relation to developments on the Korean Peninsula and provocations against Russian athletes."
On December 5, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) is set to decide during its Executive Board’s session whether the Russian national team would be cleared to take part in the PyeongChang Olympics. Earlier, the IOC banned some Russian athletes from competing at the Winter Olympics and annulled their achievements at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.
The next Olympics, which are XXIII Winter Olympic Games, will take place in South Korea’s PyeongChang on February 9-25, 2018 and Russia’s participation in the event is still under question.
