MOSCOW, February 11. /TASS/. The success of the Ski Track of Russia mass skiing event in Russia demonstrates that healthy lifestyle is becoming increasingly popular in Russia, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Mutko told TASS.
"I congratulate all fans of skiing and professional athletes on this wonderful event. I think that the Ski Track of Russia will gather about 1.5 million participants because healthy lifestyle is becoming popular in Russia," he said.
The main start of the race, held outside the city of Yakhroma near Moscow on Saturday, gathered 25,000 participants.
The Ski Track of Russia, held for the 35th time, is the world’s largest in terms of the number of participants and the geographical scope. Over 1.5 million people have applied to take part in races in 74 out of 85 Russian regions, although in some of them the event was postponed due to unfavorable weather conditions.
The race has been held annually since 1982. It includes a five-kilometer and ten-kilometer courses. Traditionally, professional athletes compete along with amateurs.
