Kamaz to supply at least 1,000 trucks to Philippines by 2020Business & Economy May 29, 21:49
MOSCOW, December 8. /TASS/. Russia’s Kamaz-Master team may suspend its participation in Dakar rallies for two years, truck manufacturer Kamaz CEO Sergei Kogogin said on Thursday.
"I admit of the possibility that some break will be made for participation precisely in the Dakar rally - for a year or two," he said.
"We won’t quit races: in this case, we’ll be participating in all contests, except Dakar, as we’re not limited by anyone. Africa - it's okay, we’ll go," he said.
According to Kogogin, such decision may be made owing to the behavior of the Dakar rally‘s organizers.
"The actions of the rally raid organizers generally aimed at infringing upon our interests are the main problem for us. In particular, this is related to the engine and the requirement to change technical regulations. The development of a sports motor requires more than one million euros," he said.
"As soon as we have developed a sports motor with Libherr and made an effective truck, the regulations have been immediately changed and from 2018 we will be required to feature at least two trucks with 13-liter motors. With the best will in the world, we have no possibility today to do this," the Kamaz CEO said.
The Kamaz-Master team needs annual financing of 10 million euros to achieve good results in races, the Kamaz CEO said.
"As you remember, a period came when I simply closed down a football team. The sum of $10 million is the cost of maintaining a racer team," the chief executive said.
"This is the volume, which is required for the team to participate well in races and have funds for development. Generally speaking, we have areas, in which these funds can be used," he said.
The Kamaz-Master team won the Dakar rally in the category of trucks 13 times.
