MOSCOW, November 22 /TASS/. The Russian Football Union (RFU) Executive Committee has nominated RFU President Vitaly Mutko for the FIFA Council, a well-informed source told TASS on Tuesday.
"Mutko has been nominated for the FIFA Council," the source said.
In 2009, Mutko was elected to the FIFA Executive Committee as a UEFA representative. He was re-elected for another four-year term in 2013. The FIFA Executive Committee was transformed into a FIFA Council early this year following reforms carried out by FIFA’s new President Gianni Infantino.
Mutko has kept his seat on the Council.
Elections to the FIFA Council will take place at the UEFA Congress in Helsinki on April 5, 2017.
The RFU Executive Committee is meeting in Moscow on Tuesday.
