MINSK, October 21. /TASS/. Minsk has been chosen as the host city for the 2019 European Games, Acting President of the European Olympic Committees (EOC) Janez Kocijan·i· said on Friday.
"We have made a momentous decision and in 2019 we will bring together European athletes (to compete) at our own Olympics," Belarusian President Aleksander Lukashenko said.
"We are not a superpower, but we pay huge attention to sport," he said. "I eagerly want our European organization not to lag behind organizations from other continents, including the International Olympic Committee (IOC). In this regard, I am a nationalist and patriot. So you can count on Belarus."
"I would encourage inviting the maximum amount of athletes since these festivities are for them," the Belarusian president said. "The more athletes, the more supporters we will have at the European organization. Also, the more sports we will host here, the better they will develop."
The first European Games were held in Azerbaijan’s capital of Baku in 2015.
