MOSCOW, September 29. /TASS/. Chances are very real for the All-Russia Athletics Federation’s (ARAF) membership reinstatement in the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF), Yelena Isinbayeva, the world’s titled pole vaulter and a candidate for the presidency in ARAF, told TASS on Thursday.
"Of course the chances are real," two-time Olympic Champion Isinbayeva said in an interview with TASS. "However, we must be united to act as one soldier does not make a battle."
"We must be all together protecting our country, its honor and dignity, and only then we will reach success," she said.
Last year, the WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) Independent Commission carried out an investigation in regard to the activities of the ARAF, the Moscow anti-doping laboratory, the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) and the Russian Sports Ministry, and announced the results of the probe on November 9.
The commission accused certain athletes and sports officials of doping abuse and involvement in other activities related to violations of international regulations on performance enhancing substances.
Eventually, the IAAF decided to suspend ARAF’s membership in the global governing body of athletics and put forward a host of criteria, which the Russian ruling body of track and field sports was obliged to implement to restore its membership in the global federation.
