MOSCOW, August 19. /TASS/. Russian canoeist Ilia Shtokalov has received a bronze medal at the Rio Olympics after the International Olympic Committee (IOC) disqualified Moldovan rower Serghei Tarnovschi over the breach of anti-doping rules, the International Canoe Federation (ICF) reported on Friday.
Tarnovschi finished third with 4 minutes and 00.852 seconds while Shtokalov was fourth with 4:00.963. The gold went to Germany’s Sebastian Brendel while the silver medal was grabbed by Brazilian rower Isaquias Queiroz.
"Olympic Canoe Sprint C1M 1000m bronze medallist, Serghei Tarnovschi (MDA) has been suspended with immediate effect following adverse results from a pre-competition test," the ICF said in a statement.
Considering this change, the Russian Olympic team has won 13 gold, 15 silver and 19 bronze medals at the Rio Olympics.
