RIO DE JANEIRO, August 19. /TASS/. The Russian women's handball team is likely to face a nerve-wrecking final match, similar to semi-final against Norway, Russian Olympic Committee President Alexander Zhukov said Friday.
Russian women’s handball team has scored a victory in overtime 38-37 vs Norway, the current Olympic champion, and got through to the final round of the Olympic Games.
"The match has been as heart-pounding as the men’s volleyball final tournament in London (Brazil-Russia)," Zhukov said. "I think the final will be as nerve-wrecking. The match has been dramatic while our handball players have shown a brilliant game," he added.
President of the Russian Handball Federation Sergei Shishkarev said the Russian women's handball team scored a victory due to the fact, that it had turned out mentally tougher than its peers.
"It seems to me we’ve been on a win course from the very beginning today, and it looked like we (the Russian team) were mentally tougher," he said, adding that the match was really nerve-wrecking.
On August 20, Russia will play vs France in the final.
Russian women’s handball team will play in the final of the Olympic Games for the second time in history. In 2008, Russia lost against Norway in the final match of the Beijing Olympics.
The Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro will end on August 21.
