RIO DE JANEIRO, August 18. /TASS/. Russian boxer Nikitin has been eliminated from the tournament at the Olympics in Rio due to an injury and his semi-final fight against Shakur Stevenson in 56kg category won’t take place, a representative of the Russian team told TASS.

In the first fight at the Olympics Nikitin had a cut on his head and he has not fully healed the injury until now.

"We eliminate Vladimir (from the tournament), he cannot not box because of injuries. He has a dissection and there are some other injuries. His fight against Stevenson will not happen," the representative said.

Entering the semi-finals already guarantees bronze to Nikitin.

Earlier the 26-year old Russian boxer won silver at the World Championship and grabbed bronze at the European Championship. Nikitin is also a three-time champion of Russia.

Currently, two Russian boxers are still taking part in the tournament - Misha Aloyan (category up to 52 kg) and Vitaly Dunaitsev (category of up to 64 kg).
