RIO DE JANEIRO, August 10. /TASS/. Two people have been injured when a media bus at the Rio Olympics has been attacked, Brazil’s Estadao portal reports.
One of the passengers has told Tass that the bus came under fire as it was traveling from the Deodoro area to the Main Press Center.
A Games volunteer from Turkey and a journalist from Belarus received minor injuries. According to witnesses, the attack sounded like fire arms. However, police say stones were thrown at the bus, as windows were broken not pierced.
The Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games said it had launched a probe into the incident.
Police are investigating the incident, the press service of the Rio2016 Organizing Committee said.
It said police would carry out an official expert examination during the night, and the results would be immediately made public.
The driver said he had heard unusual noise, but first thought a journalist had dropped some equipment. He continued driving, but then noticed that the passengers had hit the floor while one of the bus windows was shattered.
The driver stopped at the closest police station and picked up a police escort. Earlier, one of the bus passengers told Tass that the bus had been shelled. However, according to police, the bus was pelted with stones as windows were broken and not hit by shots.
