RIO DE JANEIRO, August 10. /TASS/. Fortune has smiled upon the Russian artistic gymnastics women’s team at Rio Olympics, the president of the Artistic Gymnastics Federation of Russia, Vasily Titov, told Tass on Wednesday after the team won silver on Tuesday.
"To be honest, we did’ not expect silver, rather a bronze medal," he explained. "We secured a certain margin while performing on the parallel bars, but the floor exercise and the beam turned out to be the most difficult for us. Plus a fall over beam had its toll, but we composed ourselves in jumps," the president said.
He admitted that silver was not without a touch of fortune. Titov said judges declined appeals of the Russian delegation to review Seda Tutkhalyan’s score on the beam and Aliya Mustavina’s score in floor exercises. "I have no claims to judging," he said.
Aliya Mustafina, Daria Spiridonova, Seda Tutkhalyan, Maria Paseka and Angelina Melnikova took silver with a total score of 176.688.
The US team took gold (184.897), while bronze went to China (176.003).
This has become Russia’s 12th medal at Rio 2016. On Monday, Russian men’s team in artistic gymnastics also took silver in men’s team all-round.
All in all, at the moment Russia has three gold medals, six silver and three bronze.
