RIO DE JANEIRO, August 10 /TASS/. Yekaterina Makarova and Yelena Vesnina of Russia have entered an Olympic tennis quarterfinal in women’s doubles after beating a Romanian duet Andreea Mitu and Raluca Olaru in straight sets 6-1; 6-4.
Two-time Grand Slam winner Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia has failed to enter the last four at the women’s singles tennis tournament in Rio.
She lost to Johanna Konta of Britain in a third round match 6-3, 5-7, 5-7. Angelique Kerber of Germany or Australian Samantha Stosur will be Konta’s rival in the quarterfinals.
Kuznetsova and her compatriot Darya Kasatkina will meet Czechs Andrea Hlavackova and Lucie Hradecka in the quarters in women’s doubles.
Kasatkina has also managed to enter the last four of the women’s singles tournament. She will meet American Madison Keys in the quarters.
Women’s singles Olympic final will take place on August 13.
