RIO DE JANEIRO, August 6. /TASS/. Brazil's Interim President Michel Temer has declared the 31st Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro officially open.
The opening ceremony is underway at the Maracana stadium.
Athletes from 206 nations and members of the refugee team performing under the Olympic flag will compete for 306 sets of medals in 28 sports at the first-ever Olympics to be held in South America.
More than 11,000 athletes will take part in the Games.
The Summer Olympic Games will run until August 21.
