MOSCOW, August 5. /TASS/. The International Cycling Union (UCI) supports the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to cancel rules of double responsibility for doping, Secretary General of the Russian Cycling Federation (RCF) Yury Kucheryaviy told TASS on Friday.
"We are waiting for decision on out athletes. UCI supports CAS’ yesterday decision and support Russian athletes. We are now expecting a decision of the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) Independent Commission,"Kucheryaviy said.
Lawyer Mikhail Prokopets told TASS earlier that CAS considered the case of Russian swimmers Anastasia Karabelschikova and Ivan Podshivalov and overturned the IOC ruling that Russian athletes who have been sanctioned for doping cannot compete in the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
The 31st Summer Olympic Games, the very first for Latin America, will be held in the resort city of Rio de Janeiro between August 5 and 21.
