RIO DE JANEIRO, August 4. /TASS/. Juan Antonio Samaranch Jr. was elected first vice president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on Thursday at the 129th IOC session held in Brazil’s Rio de Janeiro in the run up to the 2016 Summer Olympic Games.
Also, World Rowing Federation (FISA) President Denis Oswald and World Archery President Ugur Erdener had vied for vice president. Oswald decided to drop out of the race and Erdener was elected vice president.
Vice president of the International Modern Pentathlon Union Juan Antonio Samaranch Jr. is the son of Juan Antonio Samaranch, the OIC president between 1980 and 2001.
