RIO DE JANEIRO, August 4. /TASS/. The Russian flag has been hoisted on Wednesday in the Olympic Village Rio de Janeiro, the home to athletes who will be competing at the Summer Olympic Games.
The ceremony was attended by President of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) Alexander Zhukov, head of the Russian delegation Igor Kazikov, athletes and coaches of the Russian team who have already been accommodated in that village.
"We are in great mood. We hope it is not the last time when the Russian flag is hoisted at the Rio Olympics," Zhukov said.
On Wednesday, Russia’s titled volleyball champ Sergey Tetyukhin was officially named the national Olympic team’s flag bearer at the opening ceremony of the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Brazil’s Rio de Janeiro this Friday.
Zhukov said earlier that the Russian Olympic team will include 270-280 athletes.
The 31st Summer Olympic Games will be held in Brazil’s Rio de Janeiro from August 5 through August 21, 2016.
