RIO DE JANEIRO, July 29. /TASS/. Russia’s national Olympic team has arrived in Rio de Janeiro on Friday to participate in the Olympic Games, which will begin on August 5. An Aeroflot plane with the athletes landed in the Antonio Carlos Jobim international airport.
Representatives of the Russian diaspora and the Russian Consulate General in Rio de Janeiro organized a welcome reception for the Olympians in the arrival hall. Some of them brought the national flags with them.
The Russian athletes departed by SU7150 flight at 08:10 am, Moscow time, Thursday from the Russian capital's Sheremetyevo airport. Prior to that, there was the farewell ceremony for the team that was attended by the country’s male and female volleyball teams, women's handball team, the boxing team, the synchronized swimming and table tennis teams, as well as the President of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), Alexander Zhukov. The first Russian Olympians - the gymnastics team - arrived in Rio de Janeiro earlier.
The 31st Summer Olympic Games will be held from August 5 to 21. These are the first Olympic Games organized in South America. The Paralympic Games will be held from September 7 to 18.
